Le meurtre d'un homme retrouvé sur un terrain vague cache en fait une affaire de trafic de jetons d'un casino. Après la fermeture de l'établissement, ils auraient dû être détruits comme la loi l'exige. Or, nombre de ces jetons ont été cachés et sont donc devenus monnayables auprès de l'Etat du Nevada. De quoi attirer la convoitise de la victime, un malfrat, et celle d'un marchand d'objets de collection.
