Calleigh and Eric are put in danger when a 200-foot crane crashes into a tall Miami building. This also destroys Horatio's best chances of catching a crime boss.

Quelques heures avant de témoigner devant le Grand Jury, et alors qu'il est sous la protection d'Eric et Calleigh, William Campbell est assassiné. Le meurtrier a agi de façon spectaculaire, en se servant d'une grue de chantier. Calleigh, particulièrement choquée, promet à la femme de William, Beth Campbell, de retrouver l'assassin. L'enquête s'oriente vers Joey Salucci, le gangster que William Cambell devait accuser. On suppose que pour venger la mort de sa fille, décédée accidentellement, Joey Salucci aurait commandité le meurtre de A.J. Watkins, le jeune homme responsable de l'accident, puis de William Campbell qui en avait été le témoin. Joey Salucci et Mick Ragosa, son homme de main nient toute implication
