Grissom and Catherine investigate the murder of a despised comic who died onstage, apparently after drinking from a tainted bottle of water. The case grows more puzzling when a 15-year-old boy dies in a convenience store after drinking the same brand of water. Brass reopens a woman's accidental-death case after spotting the deceased's husband in a flashy new car with a trophy date on his arm.

Ein Komödiant wird vergiftet. Um die Ermittler zu verwirren, wird auch noch ein zufällig ausgewählter Junge vergiftet. Brass bittet derweil Nick darum, einen Wochen alten Fall neu aufzurollen, da er nun den Verdacht hat, es sei doch kein Unfall gewesen.

Grissom et Catherine enquêtent sur la mort d'un humoriste qui s'est écroulé en plein spectacle. Après avoir reconstitué ses derniers gestes en interrogeant les témoins, les experts en arrivent à la conclusion que c'est après avoir bu une bouteille d'eau minérale que la victime s'est effondrée. Le mystère s'épaissit lorsqu'un adolescent meurt, à l'autre bout de la ville, après avoir consommé de l'eau de la même marque. Il faut d'urgence analyser le produit en cause, l'identifier et déterminer s'il s'agit d'une pollution involontaire ou d'un tueur maniaque. L'épidémie risque de toucher toute la ville et de susciter la panique...
