Un cadavre est retrouvé mort dans un bain de boue au sein du centre spirituel d'Alan Quinn. La victime est Eric Wade, un employé d'une importante société de produits pharmaceutiques, qui semble avoir été noyé. Les experts mènent l'enquête, mais des analyses bouleversent les premières constatations. L'homme a succombé à une énorme réaction allergique due à une inhalation massive de latex. Les investigations s'orientent vers des collègues du défunt. Des restes de pilules sont retrouvées. Un laboratoire clandestin de fabrication de médicaments est découvert par les enquêteurs. De son côté, Hodge découvre le secret que lui cachait sa fiancée...
