Jason McCann contacts Nick and says that he's in imminent danger. Langston has a courtroom war of nerves against serial killer Nate Haskell. A bomb tech disarms a bomb attached to Nick's house. But when he accompanies Nick, Catherine and Vartann to a warehouse with multiple booby-traps per square inch, Kip has to really earn his paycheck to find a safe way out for the CSI team.

Le docteur Langston est convoqué au tribunal pour témoigner lors du procès de Nate Haskell. Décrit par les médias comme un monstre sans remords, Haskell tente d'attendrir le jury en évoquant son enfance difficile. Il obtient aussi d'assurer seul sa défense, malgré les mises en garde du juge. Quand vient le moment pour Langston de se présenter à la barre, Haskell insiste sur les blessures qu'il lui a infligées. Parallèlement, Nick doit faire appel aux démineurs quand il découvre, chez lui, une grenade prête à exploser. Tout porte à croire qu'il s'agit de l'oeuvre de Jason McCann, un adolescent qui cherche à venger la mort de son frère...
