From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Donna Deitch (born June 8, 1945 in San Francisco, California) is an American film and television director best known for her 1986 film Desert Hearts. The film was groundbreaking as one of the first releases to depict a lesbian love story in a generally mainstream, albeit art house, vein but with positive and respectful themes. Deitch also directed the mini-series The Women of Brewster Place. Her partner is writer Terri Jentz. Donna Deitch ist eine US-amerikanische Film- und Fernsehregisseurin, die vor allem für ihren Film „Desert Hearts“ aus dem Jahr 1986 bekannt ist. Der Film war bahnbrechend, da er als einer der ersten eine lesbische Liebesgeschichte in einem zwar künstlerisch geprägten, aber dennoch breiten Mainstream-Kontext mit positiven und respektvollen Themen darstellte.
