When Dan resurfaces, J.D. is shocked to learn his father has passed away. The reactions from his co-workers help J.D. a little, but the one person, Dr. Cox, who he wanted to be there for him is too busy with J.D.'s patients. Meanwhile, Dan sits drunk in the bath tub the whole day and Turk finds out he has Type II Diabetes.

Eines Tages steht J.D.s Bruder Dan mit einem Kuchen in der Hand und einer schlechten Nachricht vor der Tür: Ihr Vater ist gestorben. J.D. lässt Dan ein paar Tage bei sich wohnen, doch der wird schnell unerträglich. Den ganzen Tag liegt er nämlich Bier trinkend in der Badewanne.

Alla porta di J.D. bussa il fratello Dan con in mano una torta: loro padre è morto. Dopo il funerale, Dan decide di rimanere vicino a J.D. anche se in realtà è proprio lui ad avere bisogno di una mano. Al Sacro Cuore l'inserviente cerca di convincere il Dr. Kelso ad averlo autorizzato a noleggiare una gru. Il Dr. Cox cerca di evitare J.D. ad ogni costo ma prende in custodia tutti i suoi pazienti. Turk invece continua ad accusare strani sintomi e su consiglio di Molly fa una visita di controllo: si scopre così che Turk è affetto da diabete, cosa che cerca di tenere nascosta a Carla.
