While protecting a man due to testify against the Morley cigarette company, Skinner is horrified when the witness dies mysteriously. What the agents soon discover is that a new brand of cigarette has a dangerous secret.

Dr. Scobie stirbt vor seiner Aussage gegen den Tabakkonzern „Morley Tobacco“ auf unerklärliche Weise. Wenig später gibt es ein zweites Opfer, und Mulder und Scully finden am Tatort und in der Leiche einen Schwarm Käfer. Wie sich herausstellt, hat der Konzern einen neuen Tabak entwickelt, der einen gentechnisch veränderten Käfer hervorgebracht hat. Dieser legt seine Eier beim Inhalieren im Körper ab. Als auch Mulder davon betroffen ist, scheint es keine Rettung mehr zu geben.
