L'hiver arrive à grands pas. Or tout le monde sait qu'à New York, il est généralement très rude. Pour Max, il est grand temps de reloger Chestnut : il tente de convaincre Caroline qu'il faut trouver un refuge pour l'animal, mais celle-ci ne veut pas laisser partir son fidèle compagnon. Elle se lance donc dans la construction d'un abri dans le jardin. Malheureusement, elle se rend vite compte que cette solution ne pourra pas tenir bien longtemps. A court d'idée, Caroline installe finalement Chestnut dans la chambre de Max. Pendant ce temps, Peach, la maman des jumeaux que garde Max, passe une audition pour une émission de télévision...
