Les résidents d'un motel bon marché vaquent tranquillement à leurs occupations quand trois coups de feu retentissent. Bilan de la fusillade : le cadavre d'un étudiant, Seth Copeland, flotte dans la piscine et Eric Delko a été légèrement blessé au bras. Juste avant le crime, Seth Copeland était victime d'un bizutage. En essayant d'y échapper, il a été tué accidentellement par Carl, un voisin qui menaçait sa compagne, Molly. Carl avait caché un sac d'argent dans le conduit de ventilation de leur chambre et soupçonnait Molly de l'avoir volé. Au cours de leur altercation le coup est parti, tuant Seth Copeland. En s'introduisant dans le conduit de ventilation, Calleigh débouche dans une salle de bains voisine et découvre un cadavre dans la baignoire.
